Happy New Year! Happy Whole 30!

I couldn’t think of a better way to kick off 2013 than with a Whole30 challenge.  I’ve been a bad girl.  As usual, I set off with good intentions and then went completely awry.  In the words of Rita Mae Brown “Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself’.  Mostly I found bread, cheese and wine and while these are perfectly fine for some people, sadly they are really not good for me.  So I’m going to eliminate the temptation for at least the next 30 days.

http://whole9life.com/If you’re unfamiliar with the Whole30 challenge, check out Melissa and Dallas Hartwig’s excellent Whole30 website here.  Basically, a Whole 30 challenge is no grains, legumes, dairy or added sugars (natural sugar i.e. fruit is ok) for 30 days.  Oh, and no alcohol.  The one thing I will miss the most.

I’ve already made my first rookie mistake (the same mistake that ended my Whole30 run last time) and consumed some contraband without even thinking about it.  Corn chips (corn is a grain) and beetroot dip (home-made, with white beans, a legume!).  Doh!  So I will be restarting again tomorrow.  Fortunately January has 31 days so all going to plan (and trust me, you NEED to plan your meals, what you’ll eat, when, or you’ll slip accidentally, or otherwise) then I will still be able to complete the January Whole 30 challenge in January.

Stay tuned for updates and recipes.  I’ll also be pinning a lot of Whole30 compliant food options here.
